Around the House

Our state is home to thousands of lakes, which might be why lakeside living feels like such a Texas thing. There’s nothing quite like spending a warm summer day on the glistening water, listening to music, laughing with friends and making the most of what Texas has to offer. That’s why we’re so excited for you to get to know one of the newest Highland communities: Wildridge in beautiful Oak Point True to its name, Wildridge sits on the quite banks of Lake Lewisville and is surrounded by nature. Wide open spaces, towering trees and winding trails are everywhere you look, along with gorgeous lake views.

Beyond the Wildridge community, Oak Point and the surrounding area offer all the charm of a small town, plus plenty of excitement and entertainment. These days, north DFW really pulls its weight when it comes to recreation, entertainment and dining. We no longer have to hop on the Tollway to enjoy the best of what Texas offers. Instead, it’s right at our doorstep. Here are a few of our favorite to-dos in and around the Oak Point area:

Lake Lewisville is one of the most popular recreational areas in Dallas-Fort Worth, drawing Texans from all over to fish, boat, water ski and make new friends.waterskier

“Party Cove” is definitely the liveliest part of Lake Lewisville; it’s not unusual to see hundreds of people gathered there every weekend throughout the spring and summer. Located near Westlake Park, Party Cove is an easy boat ride from Oak Point, making it a popular spot for locals. Swing by, tie your boat up and enjoy the sun, the music and a cool beverage. Of course, the lake also includes plenty of quiet coves and parks that are ideal for fishing, relaxing and enjoying quality family time. It’s just a matter of finding what suits you best!

Denton offers small-town Texas charm.

Popular nationwide for its lively music scene, Denton is just 20 minutes away. This quirky college town includes renowned venues like Rubber Gloves and Hannah’s Off the Square, as well as countless up-and-coming hot spots. On a given weekend, you can catch
anything from indie rock to honkey tonk—sometimes from big-name acts making a surprise appearance.

If live music isn’t your ideal scene, there are plenty of alternatives: Nearby Toyota Stadium is home to FC Dallas, our very own pro soccer team. (The stadium’s beer garden is a great spot for a fun date night, especially during the spring and summer.) We also have three golf courses within a short drive, including the incredible Tribute, which many agree is one of the best in the Metroplex. And Dr. Pepper Ballpark is the place to see the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. We love their beautiful, cozy stadium—especially if it happens to be dollar hot dog night.

Folks in Oak Point like to make the most of lake-side living, and Captain Jack’s Floating Bar & Grill is perfect for drinks, appetizers and an unforgettable sunset. Or visit Towers Tap House for their relaxing patio and great views.

Just north of Oak Point is one of Texas’ favorite taco shops, Fuzzy’s, which originated in Fort Worth. Or you can get adventurous and try one of our favorite local spots: Trompo King. Sure, it’s tucked away in a gas station, but it serves some of the best Mexican food around.

Farther out, you won’t want to miss the burgers at Sweetwater Grill & Tavern in Denton, or the Superman Roll at Sushi Toro in Frisco Square. And when you’re in the mood to get dressed to the nines and enjoy some fine dining, The Shops at Legacy offers some of the area’s best options.
